Skraeckoedlan: Flykten från Tellus

27/07/10  ||  Butt-Beard

Skraeckoedlan (or “the dinosaur”) play stoner metal. Now before I get into the review properly, I would like to thank Lord K for leaving me the album in fucken Swedish. I do not speak/know/understand a fucken word of Swedish. So I got this shit and immediately started thinking of what the fuck the title could mean. “Flykten” could be “Flies” or “Flight”, “Från” is obviously “From”, and “Tellus” means “Earth”. So the album is called “Flies From Earth”?*

Fuck if I know. All I give a fuck about is the ‘choons and this debut 5 song EP is fucking banging. If stoner rock was to have a global conscience, or any kind of actual message, it would make sense that it would be a green one. And no, I don’t mean that kind of green. I mean, of course, the irreparable environmental damage being done to our planet. And why would that particular issue be the fight song of the doom lords? They give a fuck, and they’re high.

Skraeckoedlan is all Swedish, all the time. The lyrics are all in Swedish and sound like lumberjacks from outer space, heroes in the epic quest to best the beast. The world may very well be coming to an end and global domination may be eminent. But as long as stoner rock this good is put out I don’t give a fuck. I’ve got awesome shades and the weird grooves of bands like Skraeckoedlan to carry me on down. Awesome stuff.

*Note by The Lord: Actually, “The escape from Earth” is more like it and “skräcködlan” is, in direct Swenglish, “horror-lizard”. And Swenglish makes no sense whatsoever, so it’s all good.
